What is Page Speed Insights and Core Web Vitals

Page Speed Insights is a tool developed by Google that analyzes the performance of a web page on both mobile and desktop devices. The tool provides a score between 0 to 100 for the page speed and other key performance metrics such as time to first byte, first contently paint, and time to interactive.

The tool also provides recommendations for improving the website page speed, such as optimizing images, reducing server response time, and leveraging browser caching.

Core Web Vitals is a set of specific metrics related to website page loading speed, interactivity, and visual stability that Google uses to assess the user experience of a website. The metrics include:

Largest Contentful Paint (LCP): measures the time it takes for the largest content element to load.

First Input Delay (FID): measures the time it takes for a page to become interactive.

Cumulative Layout Shift (CLS): measures the visual stability of a page by tracking unexpected layout shifts during page loading.

Starting from May 2021, Google has made Core Web Vitals a part of its ranking algorithm, which means that websites that perform well on these metrics will be rewarded with better google search engine rankings. Therefore, it is important for website owners and developers to optimize their websites for Core Web Vitals to improve the user experience and google search engine visibility.
